Interactive resources

Interactive resources include interactive quizzes, surveys and questions which the learner can do on a computer in the classroom; online at home; or which can be used in the classroom on an interactive whiteboard. Interactive resources include professionally developed CDRoms, online resources (subscription or free), or can be created by yourself or other tutors using a variety of different authoring tools.

Interactive whiteboards

Interactive whiteboards combine a computer and projector with a specially-built interactive whiteboard. Users can control the computer (and any software on it) by using a whiteboard pen or stylus or their finger on the whiteboard; or by using a wireless keyboard and mouse. Notes or annotations made by a teacher or student during the class can be saved as an electronic file.

Digital cameras, video cameras and MP3 players/recorders

Digital cameras and video cameras can be invaluable for recording learner progress and achievement (RARPA); and MP3 players/recorders are being used increasingly in Languages and Skills for Life classes in place of old-style tape players and/or CDs.

Podcast

A Podcast is an audio file similar to a radio broadcast, which can be downloaded and listened to on a computer, mp3 player, mobile phone, etc. Podcasting is a way that can enable you to easily incorporate on-demand audio recordings into your curriculum. On Internet you can find hundreds of podcasts for learning languages but you can create your own podcast to be used by your students.

If you want to know more about what a podcast is, you can watch this very useful video.

The following video will show you how to create a podcast and distribute it.

Websites, Blogs and Wikis

The internet is a vast potential learning and research resource for you and your students - though it's not always easy to find what you're looking for! Blogs and Wikis (like this one) are other online tools that you can use with students to encourage reflection and/or collaboration - or simply to set them homework!
