Eskills ILT CPD training

ILT and Eskills CPD for 2011-12

 

A wide range of hands-on ILT training sessions are planned for the autumn and spring terms in response to Ofsted recommendations, and to support the ILT enrichment thread in the new Scheme of Work


All sessions will be hands-on: using computers or other ILT equipment, and actively creating or recording resources. All training is on Saturday mornings from 9.30-12.30pm

1. Interactive Whiteboard & Software – beyond the basics

These sessions will give tutors hands-on experience of creating interactive learning resources using either Smart Notebook (for use with Smartboards) or Active Inspire (for use with Promethean boards).
You will:
• create pages with text, images, links, sound and video
• use drawing tools and create animations
• use other interactive tools to zoom in, hide parts of the screen, magnify, rotate, move, resize etc

Pre-requisites: Tutors should have basic IT skills, and be comfortable with using a computer and the Internet. Ideally you will have previously attended an Introduction to Interactive Whiteboard course (but this is not strictly necessary).

15 October 2011 – Huntingdon Regional College, Huntingdon
28 January 2012 – Cottenham Village College, nr Cambridge

Promethean and ActivInspire 
25 February 2012 – Coleridge Community College, Cambridge

All training is on Saturday mornings from 9.30-12.30pm

 


2. Creating Interactive Powerpoints

You will:
• insert images, links, sound and video files into Powerpoint slides
• customise interactive Powerpoint template slideshows (eg “Who wants to be a millionaire?” quiz)
• create your own interactive Powerpoint slideshow with animations and/or quiz questions
• find out how to customise other template learning resources: cartoons, videos, flash movies

Pre-requisites: Tutors should have a basic knowledge of Powerpoint, and be comfortable with using a computer and the Internet.

05 November 2011 – Coleridge Community College, Cambridge
19 November 2011 – March Community Centre, March
10 March 2012 – Ely Community College, Ely

All training is on Saturday mornings from 9.30-12.30pm 


3. Digital assessment and recording

You will:
• use Flip cameras and/or voice recorders to record learning and achievement – you will also learn how to download and playback recorded files
• assess the different ways in which you could use recording equipment (including mobile phones) to assess learners and capture learning outcomes
• use interactive voting handsets to do whole-class quizzes
• find online quizzes to use for your subject area and create your own quiz using SurveyMonkey
• discuss e-safety issues and ways to highlight these with learners

Pre-requisites: Tutors should have basic IT skills, and be comfortable with using a computer and the Internet.

4. Online tools and social networking

You will:
• learn how to use Twitter, online forums, blogs and wikis to communicate with learners in and outside the classroom; set up one of these for your learners
• explore ways of using YouTube and mobile technologies in the classroom
• explore AccessApps – useful accessibility tools for all learners
• find out about online (virtual) learning environments (VLEs)
• upload course materials onto a VLE or wiki to support your course
• discuss e-safety issues and ways to highlight with learners

Pre-requisites: Tutors should have basic IT skills, and be comfortable with using a computer and the Internet.
